Assessment

ACCREDITATION OF PRIOR AND EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING ( APEL)

Background of APEL
APEL is the term used to award academic credits for previous learning acquired by an individual who aspires to further his studies in Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL). Using the APEL system, an applicant will be awarded academic credits for the following areas after being reviewed by the Board of Studies:

a) Learning acquired through work experience
b) Learning acquired through experiences in management
c) Learning acquired through experiences in academic studies (certified & non-certified)
d) Learning acquired through experiences in Vocational and Professional training
e) Learning acquired through experiences in conferences/seminars/expos
f) Involvement in Professional Bodies/Associations

Why APEL?
As an increasing number of applicants to IHL are working adults, they are finding it cumbersome to put their career on hold to further their academic pursuits. Many others have wide experiences in a certain field but lack a proper paper qualification. Hence, with the APL system, these individuals are able to further their studies in IHL. This is due to the fact that they are given the opportunity to convert their past learning experiences (which are relevant to their area of study) into academic credits. They are able to utilize their past work experiences and other practical experiences as entry requirements into IHL.

How to Apply for APEL?
1.Develop a comprehensive Resume which states all your achievements, awards, courses and seminars attended. Please refer to Appendix A: Guidelines for Resume.

2.Provide a copy of all certificates presented to you. These copies must be certified as true copy. Applicants are prohibited from sending their original certificates.

3.Provide the names, addresses and contact details of at least two (2) individuals who are not related to you with whom the European Business School can get in touch if it wishes to investigate your academic/work background.
